Alternative Dispute Resolution
Alternative dispute resolution generally refers to non-judicial proceedings used to resolve disputes between two or more parties. The most common alternative dispute resolution methods are mediation and arbitration. In mediation, a mediator works with the parties towards resolving the particular dispute in a manner that is acceptable to all parties involved. In arbitration, the adverse parties present their respective cases to one or more arbitrators who weigh the evidence presented by the parties and render a decision resolving the matter.
While mediation and arbitration may be less formal than a traditional judicial proceeding in a courtroom before a judge or jury, the complexity of the issues and the consequences of an adverse outcome remain the same.
The attorneys at Deeley King Pang & Van Etten, LLP have extensive experience representing clients in mediations and arbitrations arising from a wide range of disputes including breach of contracts, torts, business disputes, lease renegotiations, and insurance law matters.
